How to Define & Maintain Your Curls
Healthy curls start with moisture, patience, and the right technique. Follow this step-by-step routine to achieve soft, defined, frizz-free curls that last.
-
Divide your hair into 4 equal sections.
Using a Denman brush or detangling brush, thoroughly detangle each section from ends to roots.
Make sure all curls are completely brushed out before moving to the next step. This creates the foundation for smooth, defined coils.
-
In a spray bottle, mix:
2/3 Water
1/3 Conditioner
Shake well before use.
Spray each section generously until fully saturated. Hydration is key to curl definition.
-
Apply a light sealant cream to each section to lock in moisture.

-
Gently scrunch each section upward toward the scalp.
This step:
Encourages coil formation
Enhances curl definition
Removes excess water
Reduces dripping
Take your time — this is where the curl pattern really develops.
-
Keep your hair sectioned while drying.
You have two options:
Air Dry (Recommended)
Best for minimal frizz
Creates softer, more natural curls
Diffuser Dry
Use a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment on low to medium heat.
Important:
Avoid touching or running your fingers through your hair while it dries to prevent frizz. -
Until your next co-wash, refresh curls using your water + conditioner spray mix.
Lightly mist and scrunch to reactivate your curl pattern.

Before getting your hair wet, separate it into 4 sections.
Sectioning helps:
Reduce tangling
Make detangling easier
Ensure even product distribution
Prevent unnecessary breakage
Secure each section before moving to the next step.
-
Thoroughly wet each section while keeping them separated.
This step is important to avoid matting and tangles, especially with curly and coily textures.
-
Apply shampoo to one section at a time.
Using a wide-tooth comb, gently detangle starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots.
Detangling during shampooing is much easier and more manageable when the hair is sectioned.
-
Apply conditioner to each section generously.
Using a Denman brush, detangle from the ends upward to ensure the conditioner is evenly distributed and curls are fully hydrated.
For a Deep Condition
Allow the conditioner to sit for 15–30 minutes before rinsing.
-
Rinse your hair thoroughly with cool water to help seal the cuticle and lock in moisture.
While hair is still damp:
Apply a light leave-in conditioner
